Why This Film · Why Now

Authentic Stories Find Audiences.

A regional story with a national audience — built on themes that resonate far beyond South Texas.

01

Growing Latino Audience

Latino audiences remain one of the most influential moviegoing demographics in America, yet authentic stories from communities like the Rio Grande Valley remain underrepresented on screen.

02

Female-Led Story

A coming-of-age journey told through the eyes of a young Latina athlete navigating family, identity, ambition, and belonging — universal themes across generations.

03

The Story

A Choice That Changes Everything.

At six years old, Zulema Cantu watched her mother leave — taking her younger brother but leaving her behind with Abuela Jesusa, on the promise that she would return soon. She never did.

Twelve years later, Zulema has become one of South Texas' most talented volleyball players. When a college scholarship offers a chance to leave the Rio Grande Valley, she must confront a question she has carried her entire life: does leaving make her just like the mother who walked away?

Guided by Abuela's wisdom and challenged by her mother's unexpected return, Zulema discovers the difference between running away and choosing to go.

The Rio Grande Valley is More Than a Location.

It's a character. Set across Edinburg, McAllen, Mission, and Hidalgo County, the film celebrates a region rarely portrayed authentically on screen.

Honesty First

Risks & Transparency.

We believe great partnerships start with straight talk. Here's the honest picture before you ever consider investing.

What You Should Know

  • Investing in independent film is speculative and high-risk — you could lose some or all of your investment.
  • There is no guarantee the film is completed, distributed, or generates any revenue or return.
  • Returns, if any, can take years and depend on distribution that is never assured.
  • Budgets, schedules, and plans can change as production realities unfold.
  • Only invest what you can comfortably afford to lose.

Our Commitments to You

  • Regular, honest investor updates from development through release.
  • A disciplined budget built so every dollar shows on screen.
  • A clear, investor-ready structure: BernieZule Films LLC raises; Cinema Factory, Inc. produces.
  • An experienced, Emmy-winning team accountable for delivery.
  • Full offering terms and risk factors provided through our regulated WeFunder campaign.

Questions & Answers

Investor FAQ.

The honest answers to what investors ask most. Don't see yours? Reach out anytime.

Who can invest?+
Equity crowdfunding is open to everyone 18 and older — both accredited and non-accredited investors — once our campaign goes live on WeFunder. There are federal limits on how much non-accredited investors can put in across all crowdfunding in a 12-month period, based on income and net worth; WeFunder calculates this for you automatically at checkout.
Is this an offer to invest right now?+
No. This site is here to share the project and gauge interest before our regulated campaign opens. No money is being solicited or accepted yet. When the official offering launches on WeFunder, everyone on our investor list is notified first, and all investing happens securely there.
What's the minimum investment?+
Equity crowdfunding is designed to be accessible — minimums are typically small (often around $100). The exact minimum, share price, and terms are confirmed when the campaign launches and will be detailed in the official offering materials on WeFunder.
What do I actually get for investing?+
You receive securities in BernieZule Films LLC — the entity that owns the Zulema, Stay Here project — on the terms set out in the offering. On top of that, investors receive thank-you perks (credits, downloads, premiere invites, and more) as a bonus. Perks are appreciation gifts and are separate from any financial return.
How is my money used?+
Proceeds fund the $789,186 production budget — roughly 25% above-the-line (talent & creative), 70% production (crew, locations, equipment, post), and 5% contingency. BernieZule Films LLC raises and manages the capital; Cinema Factory, Inc. provides production services and delivers the finished film under a written agreement. See the full budget breakdown.
How could the film make money?+
A completed film can earn across five revenue streams — theatrical, streaming, international sales, physical media, and festivals — often for years after release. Importantly, none of this is guaranteed: independent film is speculative, and there is no assurance of distribution or any return. Please read Risks & Transparency.
What's the timeline?+
The screenplay is complete and the budget and plan are locked. Once funded, the film shoots over 19 days in the Rio Grande Valley, followed by post-production, festivals, and distribution. Exact dates depend on completing the raise; investors receive regular updates at every stage.
Who is behind the project?+
The film is led by Steven Escobar — a Prime-Time Emmy Award-winning editor, producer, writer, and director with 40+ years and 2,000+ episodes of experience, who grew up in Edinburg, Texas. Meet the team.
What are the risks?+
Investing in independent film is speculative and high-risk — you could lose your entire investment. There's no guarantee the film is completed, distributed, or earns revenue, and any return can take years. Only invest what you can comfortably afford to lose, and review all offering materials and our Risks & Transparency section first.
